SSD Caching vs Intel Smart Response in Lightroom

I use Intel Smart Response with a 60GB SSD to act as a cache for my 3TB platter drive. The platter drive has a 300GB partition for the OS and programs, and the other partition is just for storing data.

Generally I'm happy with caching, as Lightroom starts up quite fast as it's one of my most used programs and always on the cache. One thing that is still quasi slow, however, is loading the previews when switching from folder to folder. I have the preview deletes set for 30 days like the default I believe, so they do need to be generated if the folder is old.

I was wondering, if I bought another SSD just for the OS/Programs, then point Lightroom's temp folder to the SSD, would that make preview generation quicker?

Or am I just better off setting a longer period for keeping the preview files?

You can fit OS, programs, and a small to middle sized cache on a 60GB SSD, though it won't be a large cache. A new SSD for OS and programs (60GB is fine, 120GB is heaps and room for expansion) and using the existing 60GB SSD for cache will work too.

Hmm, I may go ahead and give SSD as boot drive a try. I didn't realize the prices had come down so much. Thanks for the input.
