There seems to be a lot of disorganization in the forums over the last 6 weeks or so. Things such as rumor topics being discussed in gear forums (rather than the rumors forum), genre topic discussions being discussed in the genre photo sharing forums, tons of multiple threads started across multiple forums, referral codes being offered up when it is clearly against the rules, and a whole bunch of similar things. The problem is when a website ceases to maintain control of these things, everything becomes disjointed, unorganized, and the forums as a whole tend to lose their value and sense of community. POTN has always been an amazing place and I'd hate to see it go down the wrong path.

I suspect our hard working moderators and administrators may be working feverishly on fine-tuning the awesome new AMASS software that Pekka wrote and that may be the reason I'm noticing a decline in day-to-day moderation.

Has anyone else noticed this trend? Or do I just need to get a better source of morning caffeine?

Thanks!
Bryan

Please report all stuff like above when you see it. We do not always see everything. Please hit that "MORE INFO | REPORT" under avatar/ user name next to the post and make us aware of the problems.

I have not yet written merge threads tool, so that is why merging threads is not happening yet.

The software and forum structure transition is always a bit "messy". Things have settled a lot already as people will get more familiar with new forums and areas. We'll continue to work to make it smooth.

Thank your for caring! :)

Pekka,

Thank you for such a quick response. And a huge thank you for bringing POTN and the joy of photography to so many people!

I've definitely reported posts, but I am sometimes hesitant to report too many for fear of overwhelming the moderators. Within reason, I will definitely start reporting more when I see a definite problem.

Thanks again,
Bryan

So, should we report threads that are of good content, but just located in the wrong forum, so that the mods can move them into the correct forum? I had always thought that the "report" button was for more serious offenses, such as obvious spam or direct solicitation. But, if we can report threads that are just misplaced, it would be great, as I really do appreciate it when things are where they belong.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I do it all the time, most often to get birds out of Wildlife and occasionally to move a post with text and no images from Photo Sharing to Photography Talk. "Posted in wrong forum" is the first item on the list of reasons for reporting. It occupies the place of (dis)honor formerly given to "Spam," which is now at the bottom, there being almost no spam to report.

Oh, great! I run across misplaced threads constantly, and it's good to know that we can do something to help them find their way home.

I'm with both of you. It's a shame that people don't think about where to post their thread, especially when it's so clearly spelled out. -?

The report feature is really to bring anything to our attention. Misplaced threads are certainly an appropriate use. You can't imagine what this place would look like if we weren't moving threads all the time. :D

There's spam, but I agree it is infrequent. Spam-wise, this place is extraordinarily clean, especially when you consider the size and level of activity. That said, when I find spam, I report it.
