It's got kind of a "Polaroid" feel to it, doesn't it? 8-)

Thank you, Pekka! I'm sure some members here might have imagined that POTN might begin winding down. But that doesn't make the news any less disappointing. So generous of you to allow us to go along for the ride. As a result you gave us a way to help each other become better photographers. But there's still so much more to learn.

Thank you guys!

For documentary style photos I prefer color, but go for a muted look so the colors and contrast become to focal point of the photos. It is a bit polaroid looking....probably a bit of personal bias from how I used to see the photos my folks would take of me when I was young. (my dad had a Canon AE-1 with a decent kit of FD glass)

THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. Please log in to see the good quality stuff.
This is Amy, my youngest daughter. I shot this in natural light with a Samyang 135 at f/2 handheld. It’s a little tricky to focus a manual lens on a Nikon D810 but I’m getting the hang of it.

I like this a lot. Not really thread topic, I would put it in head shot section.

I'm accross the canal just south of Ballard, the town Seattle usurped in 1907.

I'm not sure where to pigeonhole it actually. This is in fact a candid shot of little Amy being a bit angry at her little brother as he wouldn't share his crayons with her so she went into the garden where I was shooting hibiscus flowers, saw the beautiful light falling on her from the overcast sky and took the shot.

PJ has a pretty broad definition, but I think generally the photo should tell a story without needing an explanation. It's a great photo no doubt, but on its own it doesn't really tell a story.

I agree. The photo is a portrait. It doesn't illustrate family life (see thread title) unless you know what happened that day.

I think the storytelling aspect is the most important element for this kind of imagery...but then there is the headshot thread where if it is a head then it gets posted...I think of "headshots" in the more traditional sense...not just a portrait that is a head on shoulders...so there is latitude...
