I hope I'm not whoring out my boring family snaps. Let me know if it is bad form to post, say, more than one picture/set per forum page (newbie alert). Recent happy and sad moments:

Second image is certainly is thought provoking. Nice capture.

Iv'e got a B&W version of this but I'm still partial to color.

A follow up from a previous one a few years ago, where she didn't have much hair and had pulled a hershey syrup bottle out on her own.

Cory I think the color definitely works in your photos. I don't agree that photojournalism necessarily needs to be B&W and think its overdone. The colors shouldn't be the dominant part of photo....but color definitely gives context to the story IMO. i.e. in the case of this image, the contrast between the tungsten yellows inside the tent vs the cooler color light outdoors definitely adds to the story of your kids taking a break from the elements.

Yep... The colors work good here. Nice combination of the warm colors inside the camper and the muted, cooler colors of the camper itself and the surroundings.

Though... If you did convert it to B&W it could take on an ominous, "what's out there in the woods at night" feeling. OOoooo... Scary!

Thank you, Pekka! I'm sure some members here might have imagined that POTN might begin winding down. But that doesn't make the news any less disappointing. So generous of you to allow us to go along for the ride. As a result you gave us a way to help each other become better photographers. But there's still so much more to learn.

This thread is incredible. I didn't really even know this existed (and I didn't know that I kind of took part in it). I love capturing candids of my family because none of them (including me) actually enjoy being in front of the camera, so posing for pictures to begin with is so unnatural and doesn't capture the true spirit of everyone.

These were captured at my nephews 1st birthday.

This photo is of my father, two aunts, my uncle, and my cousin. The baby is, of course, my nephew.

This is my mother. She NEVER smiles in pictures. She literally cannot "fake" smile no matter how hard we try to teach her (which is something I secretly love about her). I caught her being genuinely happy when my nephew was opening his presents. It will always be my favorite candid of her. One day I am going to get this printed on a canvas or something.
