Hi.

Yesterday i went to a great place in south Germany called "Partnach Gorge". What an amazing looking place!!! =)

I took a couple of photos with my lens (new Canon 10-18mm) in Auto-Focus and every thing was ok.
At some point i wanted to do a panorama, so i switched the lens to Manual-Focus and something strange happened: when i half-press my shutter, instead of the normal focus and metering, the camera takes immediately a photo.
I didn't change any Custom Settings, so i'm not sure what is happening! =/

The annoying thing is that i actually need to press it half-way to meter and adjust my settings, so if the camera takes a photo each time i half-press the shutter, it makes for a quite strange experience. I felt it almost impossible to use on Manual-Focus...

Anyone had something similar? Any ideas of what is going on?

Thanks
=)

I do not know what the issue is but have you tried switching to back-button focus? While it doesn't solve the problem it might offer you an alternative so you can keep taking pictures.

Looking for light in all the right places.

This for backmbutton focus http://www.learn.usa.canon.com …ckbutton_af_article.htmlp (external link)

I don't have my 60D but I believe you can disable what the half-press accomplishes. Its in Custom functions, maybe Operations. You might also consider setting the custom functions to default.

hi guys. thanks for your messages. I have tried what you said, but nothing seemed to work. And what was driving me crazy was that it was happening only with my new Canon 10-18mm. With the Tamron 20-75 it happened only rarely (on my "tests"...).

But, of course, the gear was always right.
I finally found what was wrong, and it was my fault! =/

Eventhough i had looked through all camera and Magic Lantern settings several times, some how i managed to miss it.
I had the "TRAP FOCUS" on ML turned on. So using my 10-18mm it was very easy that on half press something would be in focus, so the camera would shoot.
I have turned it back off and everything seems fine!

Thanks!
=)

To my knowledge you've never mentioned ML until now. This points out two important things, one, if you use ML it should be mentioned up front with your problem statement. This may have major impact on who responds with good information. The 2nd thing that might at times be beneficial is the behavior without running ML, or as Canon intended the camera to operate.

yep, you are right! Sorry about that!
i didn't mention ML because before i posted here i looked through all the ML setting several times. i thought everything was in order there.

I'm just glad it is working fine now!

hmmm, it seems you are not a big Magic Lantern fan... :P
