Pine Siskins have flocked into my backyard by the dozens in the past couple of weeks. It's a mutually-agreeable take-over. I provide thistles, sunflower seeds, and water. They provide entertaining flocks of rich browns and yellows scurrying and flitting in close proximity.
Excuse the thistle sock in the photo below. This pine siskin wanted to hoard the thistle and for several minutes chased away any other siskins and goldfinches that approached. Ultimately, it splayed across the sock to lay claim. The pattern of yellow and browns left me in awe.
