I'm ready to spring for a new Canon 6D. Since I prefer to buy from an authorized dealer for several reasons, I checked prices from B&H, Adorama & others. Currently, most dealers seem to be offering a $300 rebate BUT in the form of an American Express gift card.

Is this the typical kind of rebate that I can expect from authorized dealers? Are mail-in cash rebates still around?

Thank you.

I think all Canon USA rebates are in the form of an American Express gift card. By the way, you should check out the "street prices" on Canon price watch before you buy:

I saved a couple hundred bucks on a 5D3 doing this.

Those Canon Rewards Cards can be exchanged for check or direct deposit, you must receive first the card, and then call to american express and ask them to send you a check or direct deposit it will take up to 20 business days to receive the check, ohh and don't use the card not a single penny, otherwise they will denied you.

No problem a lot of people don't know that the Canon rebate program allows that. Here you can read some posts, http://slickdeals.net …ge=21&rpid=73307098&rp=20 (external link). Which btw that rebate is the one i just did.

Kit,

I also recommend taking a look at the "street prices" on CPW, you fill the form and they will reply with a deal or more that can save you some money that can go towards better glass.

I used them to buy my 7D2.

I wouldn't even bother; I just made a purchase at the bike shop (for more than the card amount) and said "please ring this up first, for... I forget the amount now, and then the rest on this actual credit card". Guy immediately knew it was a rebate card, no issues. Can also burn them up at Amazon quite easily.

I called AmEx and they enabled this card to do online purchases. Took about 5 mins. 5 more minutes later I ordered the 100-400 II from B&H and applied the card for a part of the payment!
