I took a picture a few years ago... it sat online forever and never got much engagement or interest.

Today, I got an email from someone who wants to use the photo in a magazine ad, that will run in multiple national wine and food magazines. Possibly more than one issue. I think full-page, even! Fortunately I still have the raw original.

I have always billed myself as a per-day shooter. Do any of you have a sample contract for this type of use I can see? What kind of $ or % number should I consider asking for?

Ultimately, I'd probably let them have it for $10 plus bragging rights, but I don't want to leave a bunch of money on the table if I can help it.

There is a sticky "how much do I charge' on this sub forum. I think ther is a link in there to a site that will help you estimate the market rate for that type thing.

If the link isn't in there it's somewhere around here.

You could also turn to one of the stock agencies and see how much the current rate is now for Rights Managed images.

Just out of curiosity, I ran a quote on a wine & cheese RM photo and came up with the following:

That's approximately what I was going to suggest. Compare with prices for similar usage of stock images. Or use a pricing calculator such as Fotoquote.

If the contact came from an established ad agency, they'll have a budget, they'll already know how much they want to pay, and "hopefully" they'll know it's more than $10.

Well, after going back and forth on rate more than a few times, we reached an agreement that includes a case of wine.

Does anyone have any boilerplate contract they've used for rights managed photos?

Eh? It sounds like JonKline got a deal that *includes* a case of wine....a case of wine above and beyond the $$ agreement. At least that's the way I take it. If he didn't get a good deal then he can at least sit there and drink himself into oblivion. ;)

Dollars, case of wine, a few copies of the magazine, and a great story to tell (brag about) for some time to come. Well done.

So im guessing that there is no dollar amount? I was in talks with a minor league team and I mentioned to them that I would like to shoot the game for free. But they responded with "How Much" do I charge?

They might welcome invoices to write up as legitimate expenses. 'Free' won't save them taxman money.

There was a dollar amount. Not a Getty-sized amount, but slightly better than a stockfood-dot-com dollar amount.

So no joke. What would you charge to shoot a single game? From first pitch to last.

The question was, How much would you charge to shoot a minor league game from first pitch to last. Just trying to get a ballpark figure on what you guys think is a fair price.

This is really tough because... it depends. Who are you shooting for, what do they want to use the images for, how will it benefit your business?

On an hourly basis you will spend the same time shooting Little League as you would shooting NFL - but fairly obviously no one is going to pay the same amount for LL shots as they would for NFL.

Similarly if you are shooting for the league and they are going to give the photos to the kids/parents for free then they have a very different value than if the league is going to use them to go out and secure sponsorship from local businesses and different again if they are going to sell them to the parents.
