I have done some searching on adding smoke to my photos. (Mainly cars) Is there an easier way of doing this besides downloading pre-made brushes? I tried several ways but the turn out is not so pleasant in my eyes.

I've tried:
-brush painting;opacity change; liquifying; fade liquifying; repeat steps (didn't look pleasing)
-filter > cloud layering; liquifying; warping; fading (was not successful)

The idea im looking at is this. I know the drastic look is important too for the smoke to blend in.
