I'm always futzing around my landscape to try to attract this or that bird into photo range. I knew that by piling some chunks of dead tree trunks into a teepee shape that it would be irresistible to at least one of my locals......the Carolina Wren. I was lucky enough to be stationed there one day when it was clear the Wren was in the mood to show off.

1. A little shy at first.....

I truly enjoy their antics every day as the flit around my yard on those stubby wings. I hope you all have enjoyed these looks into and at my Wrens and feel like leaving comments and critiques. Thanks for stopping by!

OK, these are cracking, Steve. What did you do to achieve such perfect lighting? I have absolutely no preference for any one over another, they're all so good. Love em! Vroompuppy? ;)

Ah so kind my good Sir, so kind! These were all captured last Fall and I thought at a later time of day than the 1:30PM-2:30PM I found upon review. I'd suspect the darker backgrounds are a result of spot metering as #s 5 & 7 were shot with center-weighted metering. I also set a .7stop EC on almost everything. Other than that I'd have to blame luck ;-)a
You'll have to read the PM to unravel the mystery of Vroompuppy.

Thanks for your kind words smallick. I've added some EXIF info to each image above at your request. These were all captured with the Nikon D800 and 600mm f4 at distances from 7.1M-7.9M. Hope this info helps.

Stunning shots, all of them. Have only seen one of these where I live and it was enjoying my stack of firewood, no camera at the ready and the way it constantly moved it would have been impossible to capture any images as nice as these are. I wonder if my visitor was way off course as I never saw it again.

I love the lighting. Almost as if the bird were under a spotlight. Did you have to do much PP on the images?
