Here are a pair of sushi plates with HDR and PS artist filters.

uuhhh... those don't looked 'cooked' to me, contrary to the stated subject of this thread.

What is the PS artist filter supposed to accomplish?

The presentation makes things seem like a photosensitive color emulsion was coated onto a roughly textured vinyl and an image enlarged onto the resulting photosensitive surface...an unpleasant for me texture which I find distracting from the photographic subject being presented. Maybe if the intent was to put images onto a vinyl tablecloth in a blue collar Japanese eating establishment I might find it more acceptable in that context.

These would be very appealing photos without the ripply texture "cooked" into them. They're less appealing with it. My opinion.

Viewing on a smartphone that texture makes everything just look out of focus.

Great looking photos otherwise.

Due to popular demand, here is the uncooked version.

An older PS filter called oil paint. Also saturation was dropped a bit from the original that I felt was over-saturated. Having shot many images for restaurant websites, I was getting tired of straight food pictures and wanted to experiment a little. Clearly the majority here felt it was not beneficial to use the filter.

What is a blue collar Japanese eating establishment?

The removal of the texture is for the better. Your lowering of the saturation does seem to benefit the photo, especially as seen in the color of the flower. However, the color of the eggs on the outside of the maki roll are more in keeping with my own expectations when viewed on the full saturation (unaltered) shot.

'blue collar Japanese eating establishment' is a reference to the fact that lower quality restaurants in the US most often had oilcloth (or more recently vinyl) tablecloths rather than cotton/linen, so they could be wiped off for reuse rather than replaced for a new diner.
More modern 'blue collar eating establishment' use newsprint, although these are often made out to be 'trendy'.

Thanks Wilt. This particular sushi bar is part of a larger Asian restaurant. To save time and maybe money, they made the sushi ahead of time and froze it. When you ordered, they would thaw it in a microwave, pour the sauce on and serve. It was mostly dry and tasteless. The items pictured were two of a few items that I knew they had to make fresh but I no longer eat there.
