So my wife and I run Littlejohn Photography and we are going to branch the Boudoir & Swimwear into its own company. However we are having a hard time coming up with something. We would like to not have our name tied to it, nor have it tied to our current geographical area (Portland Area).

So I come to all you for some discussion and name ideas.

I can hear the word of mouth advertising already, just give B.S. a call. Or I called B.S. for my shoot. :-D

I understand coming here for a starting place, but, this is something you have to mull over yourself. Not just that but in this forum(medium) there is no way you can convey what you want your brand to stand for, and what the business means to you.

You should spend 30-40 minutes brainstorming, take a few days to let those ideas settle, then do it again, and again, and again.

And maybe again,

One more time?

And brainstorming is a process where no idea is wrong, meaning if your wife says something you think sucks, you CANNOT SAY SO. Just go with it. But also don't get hung up with a good idea. You should try to keep things moving. Often the best name is born form the combination of two disparate ideas.

If you don't think you can do it alone, hire a professional, don't get in over your head. Just like we all suggest to amature photogs.

Don't get me wrong we have been thinking for a couple weeks and talking it over. I just thought some fresh brains could shine lights on ideas we had not thought of.

I 100 percent agree that you (or anyone starting down this road) needs a fresh perspective. I just don't think this is the place for to find it.

I've done marketing work my whole life and most of my friends are in the same business. We all have overlapping skill sets, but we also all have specific strengths. It's staggering the difference between good and great, even with folks who do this kind of thing for a living, much less a bunch of photographers.

And again, we don't know you and really can't get to know you.

I would have an hour long meeting with a client before even considering throwing out an idea for a business name. More likely I would have that meeting then find a couple of guys to brainstorm with, then maybe another meeting with vague descriptions of our ideas, and another round of refinements before putting something in the table.

Just my POV, I think seeking a professional is the next best step.

You need to analyze what you are targeting first, and make a key words list about that (the good the bad the one you like or not)
after you need to know what kind of name you need, i mean .. a soft name, hard name, being very specific or not, being commonly use or not and so on

A good start it's to go on a synonym website or a key words generator website and start with boudoir and swimwear to make your list

Try one of those business name gigs on Fiverr for $5. Pick one that checks for domain name availability.

The ideas they give are excellent... better than anything my friends and I came up with. I started one of my business using that $5 gig.

Here are my quick and poorly chosen suggestions (feel free to add "Photography" on the end of all of them if it sounds better):

"Straps and Snaps""
"Silk to Sun"
"Bed and Beach"
"Bed to Beach" (and vice versa)
"Lace and Sand"
"Boudoir to Beach"
"Private Beach"
"Velvet Sunset"

And I'm spent.

Thank you everyone, we have a couple solid ideas that we are tossing around. We are seeking opinions from past customers and friends at this point to see which gets the best reactions.
