Presuming you use some type of support for shooting out a car door, what type do you use? I am thinking of purchasing something to keep in my car as the opportunity where one could be helpful does arise from time to time.

I am familiar with a bean bag-type, and with a clamp-type. What would be the pros and cons for each?

On occasion I use the Kirk window mount.

It works well, and it has enough clamps to tighten itself onto the glass and brace itself against the car door's interior panel. Its more stable than I thought it would be.

The only issue I have with it is because I drive a small car. The windows are somewhat small. With the ball head attached, and the DSLR with grip attached, the viewfinder is way, way up near the top edge of the window and thus kind of inconvenient to see through. The solution of course is to take off the grip but that only works if I've remembered to pack the "regular" small mounting plate. Or I could just buy a truck or SUV!

Nikon D80, D7000, D750, N90S, FA, FM2, F, F2, 1J3... and lenses.
Rolleiflex 2.8C, Baby Rolleiflex, Ricoh Ricohmatic 44, etc.

I agree! The window mount works fine for me, but then I drive a large-windowed truck! Another option would be to completely roll down the window, and use a large beanbag to cradle the camera / lens on the sill.
