I was out after midnight hoping to see the Northern Lights, but they didn't keep their appointment. This looked good as I walked back up my driveway. I didn't get it set up as well as I might......will have another go at it tonight maybe, depending on how cold it is. This was around 12:15 am.

It is! Hopefully we'll get a few warm days before too long to melt that ice off.

Wonderful mood in it.
The lights in the house nicely controled, the stars sparkling trough the trees...the reflection of the moon in the snow...it almost looks a fairytale.

The tone and color is wonderful! If you press Cmd+- to zoom out so that the image is thumbnail size, it almost looks like a painting.

Thanks for the kind comments. I tried again last night and set the scene up a bit more carefully......got a better result, I think.

If you don't mind sir...I keep it on the first posted. (Could be a matter of taste...)
There are more stars in it.
Looking at the snow on the roof and the piles of snow between the trees on the left side, I have the impression the whitebalance was better in the first one.
In the second one the house is more subject but missing the mood of the first.
In the second one there is also more attention drawed to noise in the sky.
But...this is only one opinion. A second opinion would'nt harm anyone.

I appreciate your comments Marc! I do like the more stars in the first shot. As with most of this, it's very subjective.

I'm with Marc on the first picture. The twilight sky with the stars really sets the mood.

There's also a beautiful fade in hue from the blue sky -> green lights -> orange lights. Similar to how the colors are arranged in a color wheel (blue -> green -> orange).

nice! Looks like a great room upstairs, lots of window!

maybe do an other and first take a photo w/o lights on in the house to get the stars, then an other with lights on and bake them together in PS?

Curious why the light upstairs in more green, fluorescent light? Gives an interesting touch

Good idea, I might just try that. The green upstairs windows is ....one, a CFL lightbulb in a lamp, plus the walls are painted pale green, so a combination of those 2 things. Plus the 11 foot ceilings upstairs perhaps adds to the effect.

I favor the first shot also. I think that the first image is closer to what your eyes saw that evening. Like others, I like the mood, almost like your standing there and looking up the drive. Nice capture.

Wow nice house! Very athmospheric ond peaceful.

Nice image too! I like the first best as it looks cleaner. I think you raised the ISO for the second one too much could it be? Looks much noisier than your first one
