Like the others, I prefer the first shot for much the same reasons.
Lovely house, the upstairs room appears to have great potential for many things! As you are living on the Wallace River, do you get some good shots of the river from that room?
One final question, I do not see a chimney or flue, do you not have a wood burner/ open fire in the house?
Thanks Ian. Yes, I do live on the Wallace River (hence my name)
That upstairs room is my computer room/office. There's also a small outdoor balcony that you can get to from wither the computer room or from the guest bedroom, which face s south, toward my yard. And yes, I do get some good shots of the river from up there, mostly in winter, as there is a stand of big mature oak trees along the edge of the river that block the view somewhat during summer when they leaf out, and I am hesitant to cut any of them down, they are so big and scenic of themselves. I got some great shots of a sharp-shinned hawk a couple of weeks ago that was high in a tree, but from that upstairs room I was right at his level.
I don't have a wood-burning stove, as I didn't want the mess of wood storage indoors, so I had a modern-looking propane fireplace installed that looks perfect in the living room. It provides emergency heat in case the power goes out in a storm and the design suits the house. The plug on the fireplace is just for a blower, which wouldn't work in a power outage, but the fireplace still throws off a fair bit of heat.
