I recently purchased a Rokinon FE8M-C 8mm F3.5 Fisheye Lens for Canon. I took a few sample images and imported in Lightroom. I then noticed that Lr reports the focal length as 50mm instead of 8mm. Is this normal for this lens?

Also, I noticed Lr doesn't have a lens correction profile for this lens. Is that because it's a fisheye or is it listed under a different manufacturer?

does it have an AF confirm chip, i think the large majority of them report at 50mm...there are some AF confirm chips that are programmable

DreDaze is correct-without a focus chip, there is no reporting to the EXIF, and hence, it defaults to a 50mm. In Lightroom 5.7.1 anyway, there is a profile for it under the "model" drop down-you have to scroll all the way to the bottom and you will see a Samyang-Rokinon 8mm fisheye profile. I tried it, but I think it produces poor results (it is based on stretch and crop defishing),

Thanks. I have 5.7.1 and don't recall seeing it, though I only looked under the Make dropdown.

All of my Samyang (Bower, Rokinon) lenses appear as 50mm in the Exif info. Fortunately, I do not have any actual 50mm lenses, so I cannot get confused!

It'd be nice if I could edit the EXIF to reflect the 8mm.

I am surprised that an unchipped lens is showing 50mm as the focal length in LR5.7. I admit I am only using LR4.4, but fro my unchipped manual lens it shows as 0mm and f/0.0 when shooting in JPEG mode. When shooting RAW's it is shown as Unknown, for both focal length and aperture. I admit that that is on my 300D and 20D's I haven't actually used it on my 50D, which is the newest camera I own. I would be really surprised if either Canon or Adobe changed how they dealt with this situation. Oh and in both JPEG and RAW the lens is labeled Unknown. The same as for scanned images.

is it unchipped though? i assumed it was, and haven't seen the OP say otherwise

my unchipped lenses do the same as yours, report as 0mm f0 for everything...but when i put an AF confirm chip on is when it started reporting at 50mm f1.7(i think)

OP, if it really bothers you, you can put this programmable chip on

I'm unable to determine if it's chipped or not.

chipped, means the AF confirm chip is on the mount...which according to those pictures doesn't have anything electrical on the back...now i'm surprised that it's coming up as 50mm

I had to download the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader in order to get the Samyang-Rokinon 8mm fisheye profile. It wasn't already in Lightroom. I used the profile on a few images and it seems to accentuate the fisheye effect.
