One of my analysts wore a suit today, so he became my subject to test the lens on.

^Great first shots Carlo! You've got me all the more encouraged to get mine. :)
How does the camera/lens combo feel to you? Does the lens seem heavy or large in proprtion to the camera?

Actually that sort of thing doesn't bother me as I love to use my way-heavy/large Otus on my a7R.

It is pretty big. And maybe it makes the setup lightly front-heavy, but not nearly enough to be a problem, IMO. I think it feels fine.

Thanks!

For reference, it's about as heavy and long as the Sigma 35 ART with the metabones adapter on it. Not exactly a compact set-up, but not unreasonably large and it balances extremely well.

I overlooked this shot initially, but looking at it again, I think this is the shot that has me sold on the lens from a technical standpoint. Really smooth out of focus areas, despite very complex background elements and lighting. Tack sharp in focus areas. Handles very contrasty light well...that's one area that the Sigma 35 ART really lacks (along with its nervous bokeh), as the Sigma has a tendency to blow-out highlights within the frame.

Yeah, that shot is my favorite that you've posted. It's a perfect textbook example of how to leverage the wide(ish) angle for an environmental portrait. Love the composition and the smooth out of focus background.

Glad to read that you like it more than the Sigma - that lens may not be the most stellar in bokeh, but it is a special lens nonetheless. I liked my Sigma really well, except it gave mesome AF fits. Don't think we'll be having that problem with this one. :)

The Sigma is a phenomenal lens, especially for the price, but it's harsh rendering and nervous bokeh have always irked me...which is why for serious portrait work, I usually reach for my Canon 24-70II in lieu of the Sigma....provided I don't need the larger apertures of course.

So far, though very sharp and capable of creating a nice 3 dimensional pop, the Sony has a very pleasing, clean rendering.

Couple more from y'day:

First shot is super cool David!

Ugly day outside, but managed to do some shooting indoors:

Did some test shots between the Sigma and the Sony. Will post the results later, but at 100% crop, the Sony is sharper.

Is the aperture ring reasonably stiff? One of my biggest complaints with the Fuji lenses is that the aperture lenses are way to easy accidentally knock out of position.

It's absolutely perfect. You can either set it to click or be smooth for video guys. The clicks are nice and firm. Man I love the build quality on this lens!

Last one for tonight...

Love how the kite and the people are within the focal plane. The way they pop from the background is surreal
