....and now I have to consider an L bracket for my Canon 5D Mark III (with battery grip). Should I consider the RSS L bracket, or is there another choice (Arca Swiss) that I should consider. Could use some help here.

Your two best choices would be RRS and Kirk. I have RRS L brackets on all my cameras and no complaints. They all fit like a glove.

I went RRS and use their L plates with the BH-55, works a treat and great quality all round.

I would have stayed with RRS for everything but they don't make a one piece L bracket for my camera bodies.

I love their lever clamps. Their stuff is a bit expensive but it's top notch. You don't always get what you pay for but you seldom get that for which you don't pay.

I happen to have the Kirk L-bracket on my 5D3 (no grip) and it fits the both RRS lever clamp and camera perfectly. A friend has the RRS. Can't go wrong either way.

Enjoy the BH-55. I have one and it is great.

I have stayed with the RRS plates and brackets. They always work well together. But it's not exactly brain surgery to machine a bracket or plate that fits the lens/camera and meets the specs for the AS dovetail.

the neewer L bracket for the A7r is very good, only $20 vs RRS $180....

I wouldnt hesitate getting another one, however, second hand RRS is definitely an option, it's not like those L brackets EVER go bad, they probably last many lifetimes. If the reviews are good for third party, definitely go for it.

good point Charlie...it's not like i would need to "upgrade my L bracket" in the future. the only thing left to do is to explain to the wife why i am gonna pay $140 for an L bracket lol. thanks for the input

The Arca-Swiss type of dovetail does not have a dimension standard that makers must adhere to. There are minute dimensional differences between manufacturers and given variations in quality control there can be issues.
