Yesterday in a strong gust my camera and tripod blew over, alarming but no apparent damage. Therefore, I resolved to buy a hook to screw into the bottom male screw thread on the centre column of my Manfrotto Tripod to hang a bag full of stones from, or to hook my bag onto, whatever, but this is impossible apparently!

This is a common thing isn't it, how is it I can't find anything of the like? No Manfrotto accessory, no aftermarket accessory other than one huge hook for a ridiculous amount of money, or, a decent hook but only if I buy 18 from a Chinese wholesaler. No problem, I can find little D rings etc with male threads, I just need a female to female adapter to link the tqwo male threads together, apparently that doesn't exist either!

This is a common thing to do isn't it, why can't I find an aftermarket hook? I've resorted to a bungee hooked through the bottom and then hooked to an anchor of some sort, but, it's a bit of a rubbish solution!

Anybody got any solutions? I sense a huge market waiting to be filled by somebody!

When I need weight on my Manfrotto (190XPROB), I use the hook at the top where the legs come together. Just hang my bag on that & I'm all set.

Which model tripod do you have? I have the 190XPROB (like dfdpiper) and there is a hook where the legs come together since there's a button in the middle of the center column which allows the center column to be laid down to be horizontal.

I just saw THIS (external link) in another thread which I think is what you want/need :-)

EDIT: I just now see you are in the UK. Hopefully Amazon UK has the same or similar item

Bigger than a normal tripod screw, not great at imperial but my micrometer measures it to 0.366 inches external thread.

I've never noticed a the hook/loop at the top of the tripod, feel like a berk now, however, this is at the top of the tripod and to the side, a center column hook at the bottom will be far more sturdy, lower centre of gravity, central pull etc. But, now I've seen it, it'll do, thank you :)

Thanks for looking, I have seen this, and it is available, but it looks very cumbersome to me, and restricted to loose materials, can't hook a heavy camera bag onto it etc...

190CL, heavy and sturdy, but, still got blown over!

Can't you do as suggested at http://m.instructables.com …d-stabilizer-weight-hook/ (external link)

This is the center column for the 190CL...https://www.manfrottospares.com …data/R190,328-640x480.jpg (external link). Seems as if something is there to possibility attach a hook, etc. My personal Manfrotto has a black plastic cap on the lower end of the center column. When removed I have two holes, roughly 1/4 inch diameter.

By the way, you said your thread measured 0.366 inch OD. A common thread used on tripods is 3/8-16, 3/8 of course being 0.375. On your comment you need a female to female adapter...put two 3/8-16 nuts hard against each other on a bolt. Have a welder place three small tacks to lock the nuts together. That should yield something almost 3/4 inch long, all female 3/8-16 thread.

I did see that, I was hoping for something made for the job rather than home made, something I can clip/screw on and off rather than something bolted on, although being honest I'm just a terminal kit whore I suppose, obsessed with shiny things! However, I like the idea of the nuts, cheers :)

Amazon are selling it for £64, plus P&P, so that's what, $118? and to think people say we get ripped off in the UK compared to US prices :)
