i have bought a few manual focus lenses over the past year, rokinon fisheye, rokonon 85-1.4, samyang tilt shift and just recently a 35mm 1.4,using live view i can nail focus almost overtime but i don't like to use live view all the time,i like to use the view finder to frame my shots,i realize the cams i have use the mirror for the view finder so i am asking is the evf models like the sony able to zoom thru the view finder,i would love to be able to zoom 5x in the view finder to nail focus then go back and take the shot,is this an option in the mirrorless models, that feature alone would make me want to switch haha.

Did you ever consider changing your focus screen? There are special matte screens to use for manual focussing.

Yes options like that are only available in EVF. Canon uses optical VF . just switch to live view and focus that way. Its a bigger screen so you can see more. Optical VF has its advantages and disadvantages as well as EVF.

If there is a matte screen available for your camera that would help you tremendously. If not you can get a loupe that attaches to the camera and use the rear LCD as a giant EVF. I do that with my IR converted 550D and it works great. I use the HoodMan HoodLoupe with their crane to hold the loupe, and I use Magic Lantern for the focus peaking and magic zoom. ;)

you can use the focus screen or loupe, however it doesnt even come close to the sony EVF.... not even close. Live view is clunky and doesnt work as well, even with magic lantern's focus peaking.

once you switch, you wont be going back to dslr for manual lenses.

That feature IMO is the only way to accurately nail focus with the Sony A7 range of bodies. The only times I only use peaking is when I don't really care if the shot is in focus or not
