Okay, so I was trying to decide what to buy first, the new 100-400mm or the 7d mkll. The lens seemed like the logical choice... Soooo, now that I decided, about how long is the average wait for a pre-order? I'd probably be ordering from B&H.

I have no idea. I can say, I've been surprised at the limited availability at this point. I was fortunate and got mine from Allen's Camera back in the middle of January. They got their initial shipment and still had four left when I ordered mine. I think they were all gone within that week.

Amazon still lists it as "not yet released but you can pre-order". It's such an amazing lens I think they are going out as soon as they come in... filling existing orders. I think this is probably the case at B&H and Adorama as well, though I'm guessing.

Thanks! Guess I'll have to get on the wait list! Knew it was hard to get & out of stock in most places, just hoping I won't have to wait months! Had to cancel my spring break Keys vacation, figured I'd use the cash to buy the lens as a "consolation" prize, lol!

Thanks! I'll check that out. I do know that sometimes Adorama lists items as "In Stock", when they actually aren't. Probably something to do with the website. Think I'll call them first to find out for sure.

It was an issue in the past, but shouldn't be now - unless we are very low on stock, and there is a delay between you putting an item in your cart and actually checking out. And others beat you to the last few pieces...........

Thanks Helen! Is your next shipment spoken for by people who pre-ordered?
