What could have laid this egg?

Here's a (UK) find that surprised me: a tiny egg, neatly fitted into the cross of a No2 Phillips screw head on my shed door hinge. This is a two-shot focus stack with MP-E65 on 7D and illuminated by the MT-24EX flash. A neighbouring screw had one too. As far as I'm aware the vast majority of spiders and flies lay eggs in batches, so I thought I'd ask the knowledgeable people of the forum for ideas.

Moth egg, perhaps? I would think that, normally, the eggs would be laid on the lfp, but I have seen a Red-underwing Skipper butterfly egg-laying on a fox scat!

Moths and lady beetles generally lay a group of eggs in one place. Butterflies, including skippers, lay many eggs during a season but spread them out, one egg in each place. A butterfly is the likeliest creature I know of. However, there are many small creatures I'm unfamiliar with. You might ask at bugguide.net.
