In forum pages "MARK READ" should do it.
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=8
That command gives you a choice to mark only current forum read, or all.

Where did you look for that command?

On the bottom of New Posts page https://photography-on-the.net/forum/newposts.php you have also a direct command to "MARK ALL FORUMS READ".

The New Posts thing will work. I didn't know to look for it there. On the old board, there was a button at the bottom to mark all forums read. Thanks for letting me know where to do it at now.

For every post complaining about the change from now on, I'm going to state what I love. Counter point balance.

I love this forum so much more since the change to Amass. Before I didn't share much photography on POTN. I found myself constantly reading the gear/equipment threads since they were the forums featured prominently at the top.

Since the change I browse so many more of the other sub forums. I've learned from and enjoyed so many new areas, from macro photography to astronomy and nature photography, in fact all of the sub forums. I navigate through so many more areas than I did before. I have absolutely zero forums filtered keeping all reading, viewing, learning and enjoyment possibilities open. I have been enjoying other fellow photographers work so much more now that the forum seems more photographically centered, as opposed to gear/equipment or brand centered.

The style is clean, minimalistic, no ads (amazing) and so easy on the eyes. The creator of this place is so gifted in multiple areas of creativity it's truly awe inspiring. I don't know how you create forum software from scratch and do it so (expletive-ly) amazingly, but it has been done. It's like creating a small universe.

The image sharing is bar none the best of any internet forum I have ever experienced. Every photo just looks amazing. Perfectly scaled, click to view full screen, not like other forums where you click to view larger and it just opens in another window at the same size and then you can't get back to the original page you were looking at. Easy to add images to your gallery, every photo has metadata options. The gallery on the side of sub-forums is frequently taking me to new subject-specific threads I hadn't seen before and showing me what fellow photographers are out there creating and capturing right now.

This is the best place ever, Amass, Pekka and his skills, ability and time he generously shares with us to make this place mind-blowing-amazing, POTN, and vmad hateraide.

To talk in design terms you are painting with a very broad brush. Professionals make bad design choices all the time.

That's correct, pros do make make mistakes sometimes.
Untrained people make nothing but mistakes, though .

Pekka is sure lucky to have you as a friend, for all the nonsense you are spreading . If he can bear the drivel and wants to be associated with it. ;)

In the meantime, my suggestions would be to keep it simple, or rather go back to simple.

Pekka, or whoever is in charge here, provides a great service to photographers by hosting this message board ; but at this point it is obvious he can't change the design and interface by himself .

Nonsense.

I do all kinds of things well that I've never been "trained" to do. Most people can.

Perhaps you're an exception.

Since this forum gives you a headache every time you visit, as stated in your original post. Perhaps it would be wise not to visit.

That's pretty simple.

I have responded politely, patiently and factually to all criticism, you will now be an exception to the rule. What utter bs! I've seen zero suggestions in your posts, just intentional hate talk (perhaps driven by envy). Maybe you get kicks from it, who knows, but it will not lead to anything ...or maybe it will: just FYI: I have designed a simple ban button, too, personal attacks and trolling are against our rules.

Let's take some specific pages to discuss THE DESIGN in detail.

Please specify in detail what is wrong with these pages, and I'll get a better view of your opinions:
. . .
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/index.php?short
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/index.php?full

This line, in boldface and all caps,

379,712 MEMBERS, 17,258,745 POSTS, 1,379,152 THREADS, 1,731,674,035 THREAD VIEWS (and counting).

is too prominent. It grabs my attention every time I come in, and it isn't what I come for. I believe it was more subtle (not bold?) in AMASS! 1.0.

The line FOR YOUR EYES ONLY at left, near top, is horizontally squashed. It needs letterspacing. In the many heads on this page, I would have capped the first initial only: "Threads you have visited" instead of "Threads You Have Visited" and the items in the column. Less capping makes easier reading, as shown in studies on the effectiveness of design choices in print advertising.

(As you know, I liked Jenna Sue, and there's very little of it now.)

On the RTAT page, 2 or 3 points of additional leading just below the J. Sue head would help a lot.

I have changed above in 1.33, thanks.

(The boustrophedonic movement of tiles is such a cool thing. I don't think I've mentioned this lately.)

Needed to Google boustrophedonic :)

On all pages, I can function with the headers and footers as is, but they still look choppy: too many small items, too varied treatments for them. I understand why some links are in dark squares and so on; I just think there are smoother-looking ways to present such material.

Of course there are and will be. But for a while I'm doing only minor and gradual changes.

Thanks for inviting opinions and listening!

Agree that there are some consistency issues. "FOR YOUR EYES ONLY" should be JS to match the other pages. Also, when going through the list on the left hand side of FYEO the titles of the pages that come up vary quite a bit with regards to which words are capitalized.

I have changed capitalization to be more consistent in many places for the next version. It is better.

The same capitalization issue appears on your home pages. On the home page the user name in a black square followed by a designation like "cream of the crop" on the next line looks out of place. Maybe something like Bob_A - Cream of the Crop in JS would look better, and be more consistent.

The member title changes to Jenna Sue if it is given by Title Fairy. The font may change also on TF titles if they are using words in Caps. The member title can really be tuned to look like anything, like in https://photography-on-the.net/forum/member.php?m=36606. It is by design that it is "personal" looking.

To the right of the username on a member page I have planned some extra content so I won't put the member title adjacent to the name (and as the length and style of the title varies so much if would look odd there).

Thanks for the comments. Very helpful.

I'm an old fart (73 in June). And I'm a guy, so I never read instructions. So I hate the new look, right?

Wrong! I love the new look and the new functionality. Although I understand that email notifications will be coming soon, I don't care about them any more now that there are notifications on the top of the page.

Since I don't read instructions (it's cheating) I'm following my lifelong approach to something new: "Let's screw with it and see what happens".

Having fun!

Nice piece of work, Pekka!

What about my TF blessed title? You can't even read it all.

I guess you mean that it does not fit in the space under the avatar (in https://photography-on-the.net/forum/member.php?m=115908 it is ok)? If TF added spaces into it it would wrap, I can ask here if you like :)

In addition, no one here has said anything insulting to any one in this thread, except for you.
Now you have insulted a forum member directly, a large group of forum members indirectly, and my Boss.

Have a care, this is simply not allowed on this forum.
We have rules here and regardless of your opinions on design, you must follow them to continue posting.

I do not agree with you for many reasons.

Just out of interest since you have such thoughts, why do you believe your statement is correct?

Thank you! I believe that the additional spacing will restore some of the clean, airy look that fans of AMASS! 1.0 miss in the later versions.

Needed to Google boustrophedonic :)

"As the ox plows." It's one of my favorite words, and chances to use it are so rare.
