I have been meaning to somehow let Pekka know that I appreciate what he has put into the site and this is as good a time as any. So, Pekka, if you are listening, thank you for all the hard work and creativity that you have poured into AMASS - it is a joy to navigate and I discover new features and functions with each visit. I occasionally have a question but with a little experimenting or searching the solution is soon discovered.

It is an excellent design and I do look forward to seeing what you will bring in future versions.

I guess you mean that it does not fit in the space under the avatar (in https://photography-on-the.net/forum/member.php?m=115908 it is ok)? If TF added spaces into it it would wrap, I can ask here if you like :)

Thank you for fixing my title. I feel now that I've been pampered by the title fairy.

Careful. You've left yourself open for, "Has been diapered by the TF," or "Wears Pampers," or some such moniker. ;-)a

You're just asking for it by suggesting another member a title... that's the TF's modus operandi.

Ah well, each his own, I guess .

I always liked this forum, it's just that it's gotten so messy and convoluted I personally find it a pain to navigate .
Or just look at it . ;)

Either way, still great people around here, so I'll be around if you'll have me.
Thanks again for setting this up to begin with .

I thought it was a pain to navigate until I figured out that you could customize the order of the forums, so that what you want to read can all be on top.

I didn't have issues with the old design, and I don't have issues with the new design.

Learn to adapt.

The only constant in life is change. One of the special things about our species has been the ability to adapt to varying conditions and circumstances. Website changes rank pretty low on that totem pole of change.

I agree. I have yet to see any perfect software that satisfies every user, & complaining about "fonts and layout" is like complaining about the box that your camera came in. Most people have put that box in the closet where it belongs & moved on to use it's contents as intended.

I really like AMASS. I'm only taking baby steps at the moment but so far no problems.
I like that it has a sense of humour. Prompts and warnings make sense and are appreciated.
Uploading images is really good.

OK, probably me being a bit slow but I find the search function more difficult.

OK, probably me being a bit slow but I find the search function more difficult.

The search function is certainly more robust, and this makes it appear more difficult. The interface was a bit daunting for me at first as well, clearly to get the most of it you do need to put more into it. However, this is a huge advance over the old search. I found that the old function was always far to broad a system, a scattergun effect that returned vast amounts of off target results. There were times when in my role as Admin I needed to find something, and the search tool simply could not help. I would have to resort to using off site search, or just read pages and pages of results to find the one item I wanted.

This was in fact a big complaint that we got on the old site. It was quite hard to get the results you wanted.

Not so with AMASS search, here I can drill down to what I'm looking for in the first try.

Once you get a handle on this new search systems interface it is VERY powerful and precise!

For sure. Curious about how useful the metadata search is. Question about it, though: Is it searching through text or is it searching through EXIF?

it's like driving a toyota one day, then switching to BMW...... certainly takes time to get use to the changes in the car.

overall, there have been MASSIVE amounts of change that has helped a ton. V1.0 felt like the 5D mk2, much could be improved, however the V1.1 was like a 5D mk3, I'm sure the engine is mostly the same, however massively tweaked and polished.

I still think saving drafts is overkill, even though it's technically a neat feature, this isnt an email client. Overall, I think having a little TOO man options may be a hindrance, however, that's not a major issue.

For sure. Curious about how useful the metadata search is.

If you value searching by camera settings and lens/camera combined to all other possible filtering then it will be useful. There is not much other way to search e.g. for shots taken with "7D and 7D2 using ISO 6400 and ISO 12800" or "14, 20 and 24 focal length shots in Weddings forum", or "show me ISO 50 shots taken around new year 2009", so it is there for those occasions, else it may be ignored.

I do know that selecting metadata for the search is cumbersome as there are so many items to pick from (an they are not in proper ordering), that will be remedied in later versions where you can pick camera setting ranges with sliders and have better selector UI's for all.

Question about it, though: Is it searching through text or is it searching through EXIF?

Neither. It searches metadata which is stored in proprietary format.

Exactly.

I still think saving drafts is overkill, even though it's technically a neat feature, this isnt an email client.

When your browser crashes or you get a power outage (battery goes out from your mobile device), or you just press a back button on iPad which does not "honor" the confirmation dialog AMASS does if editor is open, then you will see the benefit of a draft. Also, you can start writing a post (or several) in an airport lounge and continue writing in a hotel room easily.
