Are there options to view a user gallery more easily? Right now, you can visit a user gallery and then click the images to go to the thread where the photo resides. Then there's the window to the left side that lets you scroll up and down and click on another image to view.

My thought is that it'd be a lot easier if we could just scroll left and right through a user's gallery without being taken to the thread where the photo is embedded.

If that's not possible, could we at least customize the gallery popup window so that it's either on the bottom or right hand side and have right and left arrows to scroll through instead of the up and down scroll bar?

For small screens, placing it on the bottom would cover too much of most photos.

Nathan, you know you can close the gallery popup, right?

Yes, now. It's not bothering me that it's there. I want to be able to click through the other galleries. It may just be me, but I don't like the placement or the vertical scrolling.

Thanks for the feedback.

The "gallery walker" can not be to the right, bottom or top as it would cover the photo you are viewing. You get the "prev/next" functionality by keeping the cursor on the thumb below (or above) the current image, that same position is always "to next" as long as there are images to show.

There will be other ways to browse them in the future, for sure.

The reason you are taken to the thread is:

- gallery photo click takes you to other photos in that post/thread by the member, photos that are not always added to the gallery, photos that you otherwise would not see.

- you see the text explaining the image, you can read comments on it.

- you get to reply/comment each post while you browse, or like the posts.

- on the thread you arrive to there might be other great photos by others on that topic.

Totally understand the rationale for why the galleries take you to the thread. It's really a great feature and I do appreciate that we have it.

Maybe it's my screen resolution, but there seems to be plenty of space on the right side of the screen for the photo walker. However, maybe that's because my photos are sized relatively small? If it's a larger photo, then you run into space issues or you run into the problem of it next to the page browser scroll bar. Putting it on the right guarantees that it's below the user's avatar.

Another question, then... is there a way to enable up or down arrow keys for the photo walker? For example, I can use the keyboard's arrow keys to go from photo to photo, instead of clicking them?

I think all of this stems from my right-handedness. Anecdotally, left-handed people are pretty smart. That means I'm having trouble on my own.

Thanks

Nathan,
The screen shot (is that the right term) that you posted shows a POTN window with a lot of extra space to the right of the photos - but I do not think this is typical. I never have that much open space to the right - in fact, I don't think I ever have any extra space to the right. I guess this is because I am always working on several different things online, and have several browser windows open and visible at once.

Monitor space is at a premium, so I am constantly adjusting the size (width) of my browser windows to be as narrow as possible. If the things were on the right, as you suggest, that would force me to have my POTN window a little bigger than I normally have it, which would mean that I wouldn't be able to see as much of the other internet windows on my monitor simultaneously. For that reason, I would really prefer to keep things as they are.

I am sure there are those who are not as ADHD as I am, and who prefer to view only one website at a time - what you are suggesting would probably work rather well for those types of people.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Same here, but for a different reason. I never have extra space to the right on my laptop.
