Has anyone used this device to good effect with a big prime or a 100-400 + extender? Does it give you the increased stability of 15% claimed by RRS?

Mar 14, 2015 17:02 | #2 Hejnar do something very similar. I did have a look at these sort of supports a while back when I had a 600 F4 L IS with a worn tripod ring. In theory they look like a very good solution as they off load the tripod ring on the bigger Super Teles, for a 100-400 I really wouldn't bother. Additionally it may well impede the zoom mechanism. Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).

CScottIV I should keep some things to myself! More info | I agree with you on the 100-400L. For it to do any good you would have to re-adjust the front part every time you zoom because the diameter varies. Charles

That is something I should consider as I often use extension tubes - ending up with quite a few joints! However for the 100-400 I think it would be more trouble than it's worth. I still wouldn't go for it due to the fact that the 100-400 extends/shortens when you zoom. If you were just setting it at a given focal length then this may not be a problem. Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).
