Canon 28mm f 2.8 IS is perfect choice but I find it costly considering it will be seeing limited use. Will be using it on some occasions to reduce overall size of camera and for bigger aperture. Intend keeping 24-105.

Slow AF will do. Manual focus lens will be difficult to use on 6D at wide open aperture, however willing to give it a try.

I have canon 50mm f1.4. Therefore I do not wish to consider 35mm. Also find 24mm to be a bit lot wider for my liking

Do I have other options than canon 28mm f 1.8

Regards
Sudeep

If you're really on a budget, there is the Tamron SP A09E 28-75mm f/2.8 LD XR Aspherical Di IF in the neighborhood of $220, but it's probably not very good in the IQ dept.

Heya,

A second hand 28mm F1.8 would be great, usually around $300.

The 6D is excellent for manual focus lenses. Throw in an EG-S precision matte focus screen and it's easy as pie. Then you have a WORLD of classic manual glass, as 28mm was quite common, and you can find really good 28 F2.8 glass out there, like from Tamron & Super Takumar.

But really, F2.8 is not much faster than F4 really. And the 6D can handle the ISO to make up for the stop loss of light. And F2.8 on the wide end is not going to give shallow depth of field. You have your 50 F1.4 for that. If you want it to make a difference, I would just hunt a used 28 F1.8 so you get what you're paying for, fast AF, fairly sharp wide open (very sharp stopped down), not a huge lens, good wide aperture.

Very best,

I think Canon's 28mm f/1.8 is a great lens. When I first went FF, I didn't like how wide it was on my 5D II, so I sold it. Now that I am accustomed to the FF, I wish I would have kept this lens. It is on my wish list.

The appeal of the 28 2.8 is that it's small and light. Just happens that IQ is extremely good.

The EF 28mm 2.8 is no longer in production but you can find a used one for as little as $200. https://www.keh.com …mm-f-2-8-ef-mount-lens-52 (external link)

At f/2.8 wide open it is just as sharp in the center as the IS version, and just gets better as you stop down: http://www.the-digital-picture.com …omp=0&FLIComp=0&APIComp=0 (external link)

It is also smaller and lighter than the IS version.

I have the 50F1.4 and the 35F2 IS. There is a large difference in view, and the 35 is a great lens. If you are set on a 28, consider the 28F2.8 IS. Frankly, I prefer the view you get from the 35, and it is really very vesatile. The 35 F2IS lenses are very sharp.

I had the Tamron 28-75 and the 28 2.8. Sold them both for the 28 1.8 USM. It is sharper (center 50% of frame) at 1.8 than the 28-75 is at 3.5. Focus on the 28 1.8 is fast and accurate. I sold the 28 2.8 partly because of slow(er) noisy focus, and partly because f/2.8 is not f/1.8. Aperture matters.

WARNING: I often dispense advice in fields I know little about!

I used the Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 for about a year after buying a 5D3 -- it was my "normal" prime on a 7D before then. While it worked well, the focal length was wider than I needed for a FF body, so I ended up selling it due to lack of use. If the focal length works for you, though, it is a nice "bang for the buck" prime lens.
