A few images from the Australian GP, I think the opportunity to photograph them is better than the racing, for what is suppose to be the premium motorsport to have such disparity between the vehicles in such a shame for spectators.

Cool! Just wonder how can you manager to bring your camera into the track? Somewhat the GP organizers clam that they have the Copyrights to all the photos ߘ

They have a lens restriction up to 400mm but saying that, he didn't check the lens on the way in and I saw another guy shooting with the sigma 150-600, which too be fair sigma are one of the major sponsors

^ Nice! you must have a good time :-)

Just wonder if you got any photos of the F-18? I was shooting birds around the Yarra River, and the sonic boom from F-18 got all of the birds crazy.

the first two of the F1 cars are a bit out of focus, the third of the Mustang sliding around through the gravel is the most interesting.

I must agree, the huge gap in performance between the top teams and the bottom teams makes it not so interesting these days...even the TV coverage showed very little of the top 4 finishers. It was more fun to watch the battle for 5-10...and to only have half the field finish...

Looking at the tires of both cars, you froze the image to much and they are a bit unsharp. A little more space on the left side of the image would be nicer too. Nevertheless, you were at the GP and I was watching it at home

Love that you caught the gravel coming up behind the Mustang; great work!

We have tickets for the Spanish Gran Prix in Barcelona in May and I read the DSLR cameras are banned unless you have special permission. I have written to the Circuit Staff, but have not gotten an answer, yet.
I told them that I am an amateur photographer and that I do not sell my photos. I hope I will be able to take my camera in. I am afraid to take it unless I hear from them, as they say on their home page that they have no responsibility to return banned items that they take.

it really is kind of insane the stance that FOM takes on so many things...telling you not to bring a camera in is just ridiculous...so what if you want to remember your race experience with something better than a cellphone snap from the nose bleed section...I have been an F1 fan for many years, and am getting turned off by a lot of the nonsense coming from FOM these days...

I've taken a DSLR into the Australian GP, USGP twice, and the Indian GP. Never had a problem. I even took my white 70-200L this past year to Austin, and no one had a problem with it.

It might be more of a promoter/track manager decision, but I haven't heard any issues from FOM.

I think camera restrictions are mostly track/promoter driven. COTA had a similar rule initially but eased up on it after a lot of backlash from fans. I went the first 2 years of the F1 race in Austin and had no issues getting my 400 f/5.6 in the gate.

If you can't fix it with a hammer you've got an electrical problem.

By "USGP," I did mean the Austin race. 2012 and 2014. Grand Prix of the Americas, I think it's officially called? Yeah, that one!

I figured for F1 it was FOM laying down the law...since they are so worried about copyright infringement of their intellectual property...

Yup - no issues with COTA. I have a Sigma 150-500 and have never had a problem with it.
