Had no clue which forum this belonged in so figured no harm no foul posting it here. So some basic questions for those who might know...

1. When purchasing a protection plan, do you purchase based on the amount you paid for an item or do you purchase a plan based on what it would actually cost to replace the item?

2. So let's say I purchase an item from an ebay storefront and instead of purchasing the $300 Squaretrade on ebay, am I ok to purchase the protection plan on Amazon for example? How does that work exactly?

Thanks - I know it sounds stupid to ask and is probably fairly obvious... I read their FAQ but more or less looking for confirmation from those of you that have used it in the past!

Nevermind I am an idiot and should have read further down on the Amazon page lol

SquareTrade Protection Plans are only valid for new products purchased at Amazon within the last 30 days.

I suggest you go on-line and check reviews and complaints of SquareTrade service plans. You will see there's a lot of complaints about SquareTrade not providing prompt and reliable service and about them offering customers lowball cash settlements instead of repairing high-ticket items. Most of these consumer extended service plans are the same.

Also note that you can purchase a SquareTrade plan directly from the SquareTrade website for any new product purchased within the past 30-days. I've also seen SquareTrade and other service plans offered on used gear when purchased at the same time on the same order via eBay.
