Although the 50D will fetch a higher resale price, I would keep it and sell the 40D.

Heya,

50D. More relevant for more time. These sell around $300~350 depending on condition. Sure you could get more, but the compromise is a significant resolution difference and overall LCD quality, and the biggest thing is MFA, etc. Since it's not a massive difference ($150 maybe at the end after shipping?), I'd keep the 50D.

40D is still a very desirable camera, and you can reliably sell it for $150~200 to the right buyer. I bought my last one for about $120. But in good shape and low clicks, $150~175 should be an easy price to fetch with some extra batteries and accessories to sweeten it up. Selling it doesn't net you much of anything, unless you're really strapped for budget, but I find having a backup camera or 2nd camera way more important than having just $100 more in the pocket. I always go with 2~3 cameras when I shoot to eliminate down time. Redundancy is good in my book. And since it's still a great camera, it's not like it's a useless brick in your bag, you can keep two different lenses on each camera and never have to change lenses and just go go go.

Very best,

I think it depends on your goal. If you are looking to raise the most capital, sell the 50D as it will command a higher price. If you want to keep the most capable as a backup, sell the 40D. The 50D is a better body in nearly all aspects. Plus, the 50D has MFA. Not sure about you, but MFA for me is a must have feature.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Dang, are 40D really that cheap now? I really liked the one I had. As I recall, the 50D added very little (other than the display and MFA) and produced noisier results. Which one produces images you like better? Keep that one, all other considerations are really secondary.

Or keep them both - for the price, they're hardly worth selling. I might have to go buy one for my daughter, she has convinced herself she needs a digital camera to help me with swimming this summer.

Keep 50D. The bigger screen on the back and the Micro adjust AF.

Godox/Flashpoint r2 system, plus some canon stuff.
