I've done it once already, and they seemed fairly pleased with the results. That said, this is a crazy venue. The lighting can change pretty dramatically from one performance to the next. Some can be further back closer to the frontlit screen. Some can be further forward where the lights from above the stage are bouncing hard off the wooden floor. It's really tough to set a base white balance and almost impossible to find someone that has something white on in every set of shots to set white balance. Some things that look white in the photo are actually more of an incandescent light causing the whole photo to come out much more blue than it should.
The thing is, they don't seem to care about post processing. They just want me to take the photos, pick the ones that are good, and give them to them. I'm not sure why they don't want any post processing (as I could make so much more pop color-wise with a little work). Essentially, they are asking me to use their HIGH end DSLR to take snapshots... and I only get one shot (since they really don't give me any time to make any corrections). Anyway, I need help. I have a venue where white balance could easily change from shot to shot (in a matter of just a few seconds). And, I could try setting it to a white and hoping that it's close enough, I guess.
I have access to: Canon 5D MkIII, Canon EF 24-105 f/4L IS lens, a Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS lens, a Canon 580EX Speedlite with a couple of different bounce/diffuser options, and a Stroboframe Pro-T Flash Bracket with all the necessary gear to make it work (off camera shoe cord, anti-twist plate, quick release, etc.). I do have access to a Photovision Calibration target as well, but I'm not sure how well it'll work on such a BIG stage. Any advice based on the equipment I have would be greatly appreciated!
