Valley of Fire - The Fire Wave

Valley of Fire State Park is about 45 minutes drive north of Las Vegas. IMO, it's the more interesting of the two Tucked away ,about a 30 minute walk from a parking lot, is "The Fire Wave" It's not "THE WAVE", but it's a little wave of colour that beckons to photographers.. "COME - shoot me!"

We hurried in to the location to beat the impending sunset and potential downpour, only to get a few shots in PRE downpour and then some really fun shots of a temporary waterfall and water flowing through the Fire Wave. What a crazy outing.

When I visited VoF the first time, I was going to spend a couple of hours visiting. EIGHT hours later, my wife and I finished shooting

Cool shots. You know, I've lived in Vegas for 20 years, have been through VoF a few times, but have never seen the Fire Wave. Hoping to shoot it in the next few weeks.

It's pretty cool - I've got to say, though, the rest of the park has some very cool structures in and of themselves.

That's my problem with Yellowstone... Really need to get back there now that I can shoot my heart out!

What a great series. My wife and had a similar experience, went out there around noon thinking we would only be there a little while! Several hours later we had to get back to sin city. Only had our early digital point and shoots, but still got some decent shots. Would love to get back there again, especially in the spring before it gets too hot. Sunrise (sunset?) park near Vegas was also a nice surprise. Love the water flowing, what a great catch!

I don't know of a sunrise/sunset park near Vegas, I'll have to Google it, but there's also Red Rock Canyon about 20 minutes WEST which is quite cool:
