Why does turning off the back lcd just turns off the words and not the screen?

I just added a short cut to custom button 3 to turn off the back display, and it's the stupidest implementation of "off" ive ever seen.

This sony A7 series just turn the screen black without text, but the stupid back light is still on.

It stays on until the evf is activated.

To make the back lcd truly off, I have to enable evf full time, and that means everything goes to it, picture playback, menues etc.

Wouldnt it be nice to have the back lcd be truly off, but comes on when I want to play back pictures, or access menu?

This irks me, since the battery life is bad as it is.

tl;dr
when the lcd is set to off using custom button, the screen just goes black but back light stayed on, thus equal to lcd not bing off at all.

No one really has this concern? with everyone saying the battery is horrible, I'd thought this would be a hot topic.

Frustration with this was discussed after the camera came out. It does seem an obvious place to save battery power

Yeah seriously, this is purely software, and the a7(s) has been through at least one revision.

So they dont really think that it's important, and besides, batteries will make them money.
