Is Zenfolio a business killer?

Ok, that's a little hyperbolic, I'll admit. I know others have no issues, but my experience has not been good. I used to have my own website. I fulfilled my own orders. I didn't get a lot of sales, but about a dozen a year, and a couple of those were always sizable.

Now, since I switched to Zenfolio a little over a year ago, and using the same URL as I did before, my sales have literally halted to zero. And it was abrupt, as in the day I switched.

It's probably me and something I'm not doing right, but I'm at a loss. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

A couple people were repeats, but the vast majority were people who found me via Google, etc.

From what I have read its a little harder to get great SEO using Zen. so that might be part of the problem. Have you done much SEO with your new site?

He is using the same URL but structure of the site changed with switch over to Zenfolio. Google has not updated PR rank in a long time and might not ever update it. SEO metrics used to measure ability to rank has moved to other factors. Without user input your old website structure will remain indexed in Google and other search engine for a long time before it is dropped off and new structure is indexed.

I want to guest blog on your Landscape / Travel photography blog, PM for details

That's a highly complex question. Many factors other than a simple change in galleries is at play.

How about active social media promotion performed by you? More? Less? The same as before moving to Zen?

Primarily, inclusion in search engines (primarily google) should not be left to the gallery or POD by itself. A seller should be actively promoting themself and bringing buyers to their site by social media participation. Are you doing so?

A year and a half later: I had re-upped for another year, and still nothing. I let my Zenfolio account lapse this past August. I had had enough. I resurrected my old homemade html site. It took a couple months but orders started coming in again.

My site isn't as slick looking as Zenfolio can be, but it gets better results. At least for me.
