Just ordered my Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM APO and am picking it up tomorrow! I wanted to rent it but my local store does not have any to rent. They are basically giving me a 14day trial with it. If I don't like it, I can bring it back for a full refund; as long as it is in pristine condition of course. I'm sure I will love it. I will be trying it out tomorrow at an indoor track meet.

My question is for those of you who may have experience with this lens or similar ones. Is there anything specific I should look for or test with this particular lens? I would like to put it through it's paces this weekend to be sure it is a good copy.

Thanks!

It's a decent lens. My copy and almost anyone else will say there is a significant bump in IQ going from 2.8 to 3.2. My standards has improved over the years with sharpness/AF and I personally wouldn't use that lens at 2.8 and ultimately ditched the lens for a Tamron VC model vs. Canon MK2 that I went back and forth with and was absolutely floored at the Tamron VC model IQ. Tack sharp at 2.8 throughout it's range.

My only suggestion would be sample identical shots from 2.8 to 3.2 and determine if your OK with the 2.8 performance.

My other issue which isn't much of an issue as long as your buying from authorized dealer is the OS failure rate on this lens. Mine went out three times... third time I sent it off for repair and when it got back sold it.

So ya... just watch that 2.8 performance.

I just sold mine recently. Primarily because of the size/weight of it. I think the focus speed and accuracy was excellent. As Talley says, it is a bit weak at f/2.8 (best at f/4, but improves the most at f/3.2) and 180mm+. I had no problems with f/2.8 at shorter focal lengths. I opted for 70-200 f/4 IS, instead. It is easier to carry.
