I have received an email from Reikan informing me that V2.0 is now on test release.

I have downloaded it but not had the chance to try it yet as my test conditions can not be met, need sunlight!

Anybody took it for a spin yet? What where your thoughts compared to any version below 2.0?

I mentioned this here in my AFMA thread as well: https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=17481954

It probably does deserve it's own though, so I'll share a thought I had (copy and pasted from other post):

One of the cool (imo) new features of v2 is that you can easily compare/graph your results with those of other people with the same camera/lens combo.

This is done by viewing the "ADS Difference" – the difference between your test data and the typical data for this camera/lens combination. You can do this for stuff like Fully Automatic Calibration, Aperture Sharpness, and Focus Error.

Unfortunately, I confirmed that this is a subscription based service. I think this is kind of crappy, especially for those of us that have been sharing our results data with them and now they are going to charge us to compare our data? I guess it's not that big of a deal, just kind of annoying - I can see myself probably paying for this for a single month to do all my lenses and compare with other to make sure I don't have one that is total outlier (on the bad side).

What do you other FoCal users think?

I did a search first but Reikan Focal 2.0 returned no results.

Subscription models seem to be the way everything is going nowadays. Sucks.

Yeah, no problem, like I said I think it deserves its own. Mine is more about AFMA.

Luckily the whole thing isn't going to subscription :) I'm hoping to try out v2 sometime this weekend. I'll post my impressions after I've had a chance to give it a good test. I know there are quite a few others that use FoCal, so hopefully they will participate.

Well the unthinkable happened today and the clouds broke. Managed to give this test release a run out.

Only v minor bugs and really only showing when you have an error throughout the test. I would say it is already as stable as 1.9....whatever version number they finished on.

Very promising upgrade, even the voice prompts, which I thought a bit gimmicky are really effective.
