The last time I shot was about a month ago. Camera has been in the bag ever since.
I shot in both AV and M last time shooting and everything worked fine.

Today I go to do a prom shoot in AV and my camera wants to set 1/8000 shutter @ ISO 100, f2.8. I had to turn fstop up to like f22 or higher to get the shutter to come down off 1/8000. All photos came out nearly black.

So I went to manual mode and continued my shoot without problem. Just had to manually adjust for different lighting changes, etc...

No flash being used.

Also I notice TV acted similar, but, of course, with fstop.

Any clues here?

Just a suggestion, but try a hard reset. Both batteries out for a few minutes. Turn camera on and press shutter without batteries installed. Hopefully it is just a computer hiccup.

Ok...i'm going to shoot myself.

SOMEHOW...the dial that adjusts exposure, so you can purposely under or over expose using that meter in the LCD and view finder that looks like the following... -3 2 1 0 1 2 3 ... I somehow had it shifted all the way to -3, and further if it will do that.
I noticed the little tick was all the hammered to -3 so I kept spinning the wheel on the back and it came back to 0 and now AV works as designed.

WOW that threw me for a loop.

Good news...I updated my firmware to latest!

At least shoot yourself with the self-timer feature on your camera. Other means tend to be a bit messier.

EDIT: BTW, I noticed that I missed by a mile on this one. Glad it wasn't a 'real' problem.

Since neither the "enable" switch nor the trigger button works without any battery in the camera, what's the point of manouvering them then?

I wrote "enable", not "power" switch, since the camera doesn't really have any power switch. What's labelled ON/OFF is really a lock switch, telling the camera to go to sleep mode and not react to most of the buttons or switches. It will still react to the card door switch, though.

If you look at the INFO about a photo on the LCD screen it would have told you that the EC had been dialed down.
The dial can take EC down to -5stops.
