It is a well regarded lens, I'd expect it to be the best macro lens in that focal length range. If you get one you won't regret it (except maybe the wallet)

Optically no difference at all, performance no difference at all the Nikon feels more solid though. If i was buying one again Id have the Nikon, but if I was on a budget, I wouldn't hesitate to get the sigma again... might be another option to you. Dave
