First day of spring ,, critique please..

Went out on the first day of Spring, we got hit with some snow..

I am very happy with these two pictures .. but always looking to improve
i've been trying to get more into doing Portraits, while i like the picture i know it could have been better , i believe i should have been closer so that she(my girlfreind) would fill in a little more of the picture,, more than anything i think too much empty space above her head?.. i wanted the bridge to show but i think it didnt have to show so much ?

any comments on either photo and any aspect would be appreciated

#1 is fantastic and I wouldn't change a thing, except maybe have the city straighten that dang light pole. Being crooked as it is, I feel my eyes drawn to it and it distracts a bit.

I like #2, but don't really feel that the uneven background helps in this one. Might be a tad distracting?
