It wasn't a great day, threatening rain, cold and grey so I thought I would go out and take some pictures - as you do !

I think this is the best one - so what d'you think ?

I like the mood and the colours.

What doesn't sit well with me is the left hand side - too much canal edge and the trees add nothing (IMO) - but the bollard is well placed as an object of interest, while badly placed in that it makes it very difficult to crop anything from the left. A compositional conundrum.

Cheers, Damien

I think it's missing a human element of some sort, a couple wandering down the canal side or a narrow boat tied up or something.

Hi, Thanks for your input, Great comments, definitely needs something on the canal edge, It can't be a boat at the moment as the canals water level is as a meter lower than normal due to flood prevention work.
I did put it through the HDR process, Only with -1 and +1 to keep it at a low level (not really a fan of hdr) so moving objects could be difficult.

Hey urbanfreestyle, so there are other photographers in Exeter, I was beginning to feel like an outcast on here.

I love the moody feel to it, have you tried it in B&W?

Great shot to walk away with on such a grey day.. The main subject is the buildings and reflections in the water., and the grey gloomy day
However my eye keeps getting pulled to the foreground anchor for boat to tie up to. I might of tried an edit with it removed.

Also a graduated filter to darken the bottom to close the image. It will put all of the attention to the middle of frame where building's and reflections are.
Also a brush to lightly darken payment on left.

Nice use of HDR. I like the first edit the most.
