£35 cashback

Wow, my rebate cheque came today for the 430ex!

I gave up all hope, no email from canon, no results on the submission status website or anything.

I sent the letter back in December, so if you're still waiting on Canon to deliver your cashback, hang on in there!

I sent my envelope out on 31st Jan, containing my rebate for the 430EX and my wifes rebate for the 350D (she bought it for me ).. my cheque arrived last week, but no sign of her cheque.

My £35 rebate for the Speedlite 580EX turned up today - like madferrit, I didn't get round to sending it until the last day.

The really frustrating part of the rebate scheme, though, is that there was £70 rebate on the EF 70-200mm f/4L. I bought a (much more expensive) EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS during the term of the rebate scheme, but the rules were clear - you couldn't have the rebate except on the precise models specified in the booklet, apart from any changes Canon made during the scheme (which was, as I recall, allowing you to use the 420EX rebate coupon for a 430EX).

I decided not to sacrifice the bar code from my 70-200's box in an almost certainly futile attempt at getting a rebate - I figured that if I sell the lens, the purchaser would probably prefer the box to be intact. It was hard enough cutting the Speedlite's box, even though there was a reason for that, and I cut out the bar code section neatly using a scalpel and straight edge.

You're right.. cutting that box was painful. All my boxes are pretty much like new, and wrapped up incase i choose to sell.

I quite like the rebate idea though.. its second nature to our american cousins.. but in the UK i believe its the first time for Canon? I hope they do something like this again.

Rebates are a good way of rewarding brand loyalty, I struggle to understand why they don't just knock off the extra £££ at the point of sale though. Maybe they can offer better deals as they know not everyone will go through the hassle of sending off the barcodes?

got £70 for my 10-22 but still waiting on £35 for 430ex - both applied for in Dec; maybe they think one is enough?

you are too late I guess. When you bought a Canon dslr before Dec 31 you also got a book of rebate vouchers to get cashback off various lenses and accessories. You had to send off with proof of payment and the barcode from the box. Canon were sometimes slow in coughing up and sometimes found an excuse not to do so but generally a popular scheme to reward brand loyalty.

oh right i bought the 350D in january with the vouchers booklet in it but i guessed i was too late? what a shame!

The scheme we're talking about here, which was rebates on some lenses, flash gear and an i9900 printer has been and gone. The only current rebate in the UK (and I believe the whole EU) is the £200 / €300 rebate if you buy an EOS 5D.
