Technical Forum?

Is it time for a 'technical questions' forum? You know the sort of thing that now ends up here there and everywhere; asking questions like "Which cable do I attach to this to give me that", or "HDD error please help" and so on and so on?

Just my thoughts... on the face of it it sounds a good idea, but at what point do you draw the line on the number of forums to scan? I have picked up threads that I am interested in and that I can contribute by looking at the list in, for example, RAW and PP forum. If you separate out all the tech queries, would you do it by camera, PP, accessories or a single tech forum? How much contribution would be missed by no having the time to scan an ever increasing number of forums... don't know the answer, just adding to the disucssion

Fair point. I was conscious when posting my thread about attaching a VHS to a PC that it really didn't have a 'home'.

True, there seem to be more Pc and Av related queries creeping in. I admit to asking some of them, primarily because I know there is heaps of experience out there on these issues as we all tend to be somewhat techno-heads and, becuase POTN is what it is, I know I won't get my head bitten off or flamed.

Maybe a purely non-camera tech forum would be the way forward so we can maximise the shared knowledge of POTN without infringing on the pure camera/image stuff?

AvForums is MUCH better for Q's on that stuff.

Probably better to take your PC and video questions to fora where that's the main focus. There are a (numerically) lot of computer people here, but you'll probably still do better where the overall mindset is computer. I could suggest a couple if anyone wants (ones I also regularly participate in).

Nah, I'm a one forum guy ... so here are my current three questions:

(1) My dishwasher has developed a leak all of a sudden. What shall I do to find out the problem and fix it?

(2) We're implementing an £80000 corporate database over the next 7 months but meanwhile need something cheap and online to manage several different types of contacts. What should we use?

(3) My server has new IP addresses but my many client domains only point to eg NS1.buzzdns.com rather than an actual IP address, so how does the domain reg. company know which actual IP addresses my server is using and do I need to change the IP's anywhere?

I'll leave meaning of life questions to next time

Can't help You with # 3 but

1: Kick it good
2: Use MS Access.

Tommy I'm afraid trying no. 1 with appropriate vigure may have broken it. I have therefore invoiced the repair charge to your new office. Writing the cheque will give you something to do other than looking over the balcony at those scantily clad ladies.

As to Access, I am lazy and want something ready made, all set to go and workable and sharable online. I don't think Access does that.
