Pocket tripod

hey guys!

I invested some time ago in a very good Feisol 3442 tournement with a Sirui x30 ballhead and am very happy with it.

However, i dont have it always with me, but the good thing is, i shoot with Sony A7 model cameras which are small and light so i could bring a small tabletripod or similar with me for when i dont have the time or dont want to carry the whole tripod with me.

It should be so small that its really just about holding the camera and maybe a ballhead or whatever?

Open on suggestions!

I've had a Slik Mini-Pro III tabletop tripod that I've used with a number of cameras. It has worked well for me.

Have a look at the Joby Gorillapod range. I've got the SLRZoom which copes easily with the 7d or 6d and a Hybrid for my Fuji x100T. They are light and extremely versatile.

That looked also very appealing to me when i saw that. What camera do you use and hwat is your feeling about it? Build and stability?

For a "pocket" tripod, this is very well built and stable. I use 5D3 with every lens I own, including 100-400L without any issues. For a heavy lens like 100-400L, I just position one of the legs in the same direction as the lens for greater stability. Stop by a local camera shop, like I did, and see for yourself.

RRS pocket pod, best I've ever owned... Haven't look back! The legs alone are rated for 100lbs, insane! Good luck!

using lava rock or hydroton, it's very light and can conform to lot of framing options. I've only used the manfrotto table tripod, and it works fine, however setup, weight, and the way it works are reason I've went with a bean bag. A bean bag can conform to a pier post for example, or armrests without issue, not so much with a table pod.

I am however using Sony A7 cameras and for them i'd think a beanbag is way too much.

I used the Ultra Pod ii. Folds down real nice. VERY sturdy and has an attached velcro strap to strap it around a tree or pole!

It should be about $15.

Are you sure that what you need is a tripod? These work fine and really sturdy

you can really build it to your liking. My current bean bag is about the size of the FE 55 lens, but weighs nothing. Goes inside of the bag without fear of scratching any of my lenses. I keep it in the main compartment under the camera and lens. Should I need a makeshift tripod, then there it is. You can make it as big or as small as you like, works in a pinch.

Prior I used Giottos mini tripod and I liked it. Those legs are about $22. Reasonably robust back when I was using it with the 5D and 24-70. I liked it with the Manfrotto 486 ball head. Unfortunately it was stolen from a restaurant table top shoot and the replacement 496 head while strong I just didn't like. ~$65

While updating to the Arca Swiss type plates for QR that led to Really Right Stuff since the cameras were using their L brackets. The TFA-01 legs with a Culmann 4.1 ball head and RRS clamp. This set-up is ~$300 though. Pictured with the G9 it is on a Culmann 2.1 head with a Kirk QR clamp. The TFA-01 sits really low so for the table top stuff that works nicely for my uses.

I have the Really Right stuff pocket tripod and have actually used it on my 800mm with my 1DX. Very well made product.
