I competed at an art show recently, was happy to sell one of my pieces and was intrigued that the woman who won First, Second and Peoples Choice printed all her photos on a Canon Pro9000 printer using a metallic Canon paper. The look was very similar to, but not quite, the same as the Cibachrome prints I used to get done in the 80s. I was unaware that metallic can be printed at home, I thought it was a lab job only. I use a lowly Epson 1430 printer that actually does a quite lovely job on Epson Premium Glossy. Anyone done metallics on a 1430? I'm trying to replicate the Cibachrome look as closely as possible - from recollection it had even more depth to it than the metals I've seen. Certainly not 3D, but I loved the deep, wet saturated look that seemed to massage the eye. Recommendations for a specific paper that works well on inkjets much appreciated along with any tips on best way to display them. The lady referred to just had hers mounted on board, BUT, she didn't sell any at the show. Walked away with all the prizemoney but no sales, which I put down to the lack of a frame. IBlock frames seem an obvious choice, but I've never been much of a fan of them and they push up the finished cost (and hence sale price) quite a lot. Do metallics keep their brilliant look under glass, as per a typical wall frame?
Thanks,
Hal Saunders
