Now shoot mostly in Manual, f4.0, 1/3200 and Auto ISO with +1/3 to 2/3 EV which I can do on 1DX. The main reason for this is that our diamonds get home plate in shadow pretty early in evening while second base is still in nice sunlight....makes it easy when quickly shooting one area and then the next to not to have to switch settings.

Some will worry about noise and such at higher ISO settings when they happen but for me with the 1DX and 1D Mk IV (my main two sports bodies) this is not an issue.

I do this shooting baseball with a 7DII. You can adjust the EC on the 7DII, also, while in manual and auto-ISO and I usually shoot with it at +1/3.

Okay guys, tried the AV method, no offense but it wasn't for me yesterday, left straight from work, game had started and the wife brought the camera for me. Still a lot of games left, I will give it another chance The following were shot in manual, auto/iso at 1/4000 and 5.6. Hard hit ball and a lot of hustle equals a triple! Chris

Finally got the chance to work with the camera a little more.Went with a full manual mode 1/3200 , 5.6 , center weighted, daylight wb , center point focus , ai servo. Was very pleased with the results, much more consistent. Some times habits aren't easy to break. Thank you for all the replies and suggestions, below pic is Sooc. Auto ISO on the newer Canon bodies is so good, just use Manual mode, set aperture for DOF, Shutter for desired motion and let the camera do ISO, works awesome and you have more control over your image.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna go back to that on the days when the weather is constantly changing, the other day we had sun, rain, sun and clouds again in 2 hrs. In the beginning of the post you can see examples of the camera getting kooky. I don't mind shooting manual except I wear transition lenses in my glasses and I can't always see the info in the viewfinder. Thank you for looking and your comment. Below pic iso 4000. Chris

I shoot manual only. But that is after years of practice learning my camera and being able to change settings quickly. Once you know the sport like the back of your hand and knowing where plays are going to develop before they do, you can make any quick changes and get the shot.
