Anyone got any suggestions for using a fan or other device to get a model's hair blowing in-studio?

I use something basically the same as this: http://www.amazon.com …/B001DNGSCM/ref=pd_cp_p_3 (external link)

It tends to give a somewhat direct stream of air, reasonable noise, and 3 levels of power. It does put out a lot of wind.

I usually put the unit on the floor and aim it up to the model's head. Is this correct? Or should I be putting it up higher? I've noticed that some models, the thin individual strands of hair blow outwards and they look like they're getting electrocuted.

Any advice for me? Recommend any products? I've also tried having an assistant "fan" the model with a big reflector, with decent results. But I do not always have an assistant.

Gear List (5D3, 70-200 f2.8L IS II, Sigma 85mm f1.4, Sigma 35mm f1.4, 50 f1.8, 24-105L, Alien Bee lights, etc etc)

Heya,

One thing I've noticed, is that constant flow no matter what you're doing, looks less natural. Having something that breaks up the flow, mimics the real wind look more. Having something that flaps in the stream of wind you make will break it up and mimic wind more closely giving some of the hair time to fall, instead of all of it just staying lifted up and stream lining around like they're in a vortex or electrocuted. A big sheet of paper or a reflector on a boom bar will flap for cheap and not make much noise and just swing back and forth allowing a break in the wind you make.

Just a thought.

Very best,
