^^ nice set xrunner.... I am starting to get the hang of it. I figured away how to pull in the lens fast when its extended to 600. instead of using the ring , all I do is rotate the camera, while holding the ring... and it pulls it in pretty fast... give it a try. Havn't changed any setting as of yet with the dock.

Great shots folks ~

looked at the end of my lens and went to wipe dust off the front but yuck - I'm surprised how much dust is inside already....

I also wonder - not certain yet - if the focal temp-lock switch is getting worn and unlocking easier now.

Maybe when my warranty year is coming up - I will send mine to Sigma for a cleaning and check-up...

Such great images from all of you.

Here's one from me, my new friend Tyson, he get's along very well and is such a wonderful dog.
Focused on the eye make a very sharp image.

For the short and medium range shots this lens preforms great.

For longer distance like the shots of the Ooievaar (dutch) or Stork(?) is 50 meters / 55 yards.

f10 1/1000sec on 600mm and iso400 and cropped guite a bit, as like 100% crop
From the 15 shots this one was the "best" , but the quality is not so good.
Was taken from the car (engine shut down) and the lens rested on my arm.
Maybe on a full frame camera this distance is to much since I did try MFA -20, -15, -10, -5 , 0 ,5, 10, 15, 20 on the bird without getting it better.
Also as it was 22 degrees Celsius today I notices some heatwaves in the distance, can that be an issue?

You guys have any tips on how to improve this (getting close is not easy to do).
I was thinking in trying a 1.4 TC so my focal lenght will match yours (as in crop camera), but I'm not sure if that will improve anything at this point.

Please let me know what you think, and thank you in advance.

Regards
Antwan

Antwan, are you waiting for the OS to engage Perhaps you have your limiter set on minimum.

Good to hear the Shep is gelling on nicely with the rest of the family.

Hey Antwan.

Maybe a stupid question. But when you MFA, do you MFA 1: Adjust all with the same amount or 2: Adjust by lens? Because if you have made a little adjustment in adjust by lens no matter how much you adjust in "adjust all with the same amount" it will make no difference because it will be overrided by Adjust by lens. That goes for my Nikon D7100 and think it goes for Canon as well.

Do you use single point or multipoint AF?

The shep is a fast learner, he copies whatever my older labs do, I will train him this summer since it is good fun and he likes to work and learn. (but less time to shoot birds :-) ).

I could not remember doing anything with this before but I check the setting on the lens and the software, seemed fine.
check my post later on, i will explain what I did to have better results.

hi Tomb58, thanks for your help.
I did MFA +1 on the Tele end of my lens in my 6D, so not applicable for the whole lens.
But is seems that doing MFA in camera and with sigma dock+software it might confuse the lens.
Today I changed my in camera MFA to both 0 (default) again, and did put the MFA +1 on 600mm in the lens by the sigma docking + software only.
then it worked much better, see my later post.

I always use my center point as it is the only cross type point for the 6D

Regards
Antwan

After some trouble with longer distance shots I did a test.

1) I put all MFA in camera back to default (0), and made these adjustments only in the sigma software and dock.
All setting in the Sigma software where first put back to factory default, then I only changed the 600mm to +1 on all distances (OS and Speed all to default as well).
2) Secondly I shots this day with 500mm only and f8. (as Will mentioned before).
3) Worked slowly to gave the OS the time to work.

This work very well
Picture if the Swan is +80 meters away (88 yards?) and sharp as should be.

Used my sturdy monopod and Manfrotto 393 gimbal head to minimize sudden movements.

All in all I'm very happy camper with this result, but still a long way to go (that's fine with me as part of the hobby).

Did anyone of you noticed something similar?

Antwan, yes the older dogs will imprint the younger ones.

I think I read another poster mention either MFA your camera or your lens, not both as you just done.
