just been texting a mate of mine that was on the verge of selling his lens , and he has stated that since the updates his lens is a lot better and he has now decided to keep it

Care to explain in terms of "Lot better" i.e what does he see in the changes.

My lens suffers from the following:

"Moderate View Mode" - Little to no OS simulated in the viewfinder.
"Dynamic View Mode" - Same as above.

C1 set to Dynamic View Mode and Fast Focusing the image in the viewfinder jumps upwards after the shutter button is released.

Currently using Default settings with no C1 or C2 assigned features.

Ok this new firmware sucks. OS is erratic and when shooting burst - maybe the first shot is satisfactory but subsequent shots hop all over the place...

I guess there is no way of reverting back to the previous Firmware version?

I'm actually to the point where it's going back to the store I bought from.

This is the answer I got back from Sigma UK

"Sigma Japan have confirmed the information I supplied you with is correct. Please see the reply I received:

OS operation in Moderate mode may not look as strong as former version, but the actual effectiveness is still very good, and it will be reflected in the better image quality ultimately.
So I guess his lens is not defect. Please inform the customer to set Standard or Dynamic mode in this case.

Hopefully this helps."

In reply I asked could we roll the firmware back and this was that reply.

"Sigma Japan have sent us instructions on reversing the firmware however it will need to come to us.

Please go to https://www.sigma-imaging-uk.com/repairs-support/ (external link) and follow the instructions for sending it to us. We will do this free of charge.

Turnaround time should be about 2-3 days and we will contact you once received."

So in a nutshell the only way to roll back the firmware is to send it in! - I'm not doing that because I believe this version is Broken and needs fixing!!

I'd keep pounding Sigma Service Center!

Yes, I don't want the old firmware back,I never knew if the OS was working with that, the only issue I have is with the Dynamic OS jumping about, for me the Standard OS works better than before but we don't know what else is going on,they need to release another firmware update to fix this.Email sent to Sigma.

I’m wondering if this is a canon (or specific models) based problem . If it was that bad there would be people screaming there heads off all over the net , I’m on a variety of forums and not hearing any problems elsewhere , and as I said my friend using a Nikon D7100 states it’s improved his set up no end ???

Just posted a query thread on talk photography forum , will keep you updated with the results if any ?

Initial reply was to use moderate or standard mode,I'll see what they come up with,as Black fox says it could be only canon fit lenses affected, well I'm now using standard mode anyway, fast focusing seems Ok with that.

That’s too bad Harry. I mentioned I was going to keep an eye out regarding your impressions as I would be using the same setup as you. Guess I may have to look into a different combo or wait until the issues are resolved. Seems as though several owners are already putting pressure on Sigma for a fix so hopefully that leads to some action on Sigma’s part. I would too if I was an owner and especially if I was outside my return window.

My first actual outing with the lens, so far I'm happy with it. Just at the point of being almost too long at this little local zoo, but it worked out pretty good...

Let's hope so - I'm contemplating a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II at the moment!

I would definitely hold off if I was in your position and see what happens.
