I am actually going the complete opposite direction of you. I have the 100-400 II, but recently acquired the 150-600. I have used the 100-400 II on a 5D Mark IV like you have and have zero complaints. In fact, I have a 1.4x III teleconverter attached as well when I go to air shows and the images are still just as great as they are without it in my eyes.

I wanted the 150-600 to attach to my 7D Mark II to have the extra reach when the planes are a bit further out. I can significantly crop with the 5D - 1.4 - 100-400 combo, but you can still only crop so much. And, in my first test with my original 150-600 copy, I noticed I will be able to get a different perspective or different angles that I won’t on the 5D combo. I am going to try out a different copy this weekend with hopefully much better results thanks to the black fox’s setup recommendations.

I think you will be very happy with your purchase of the 100-400 II and hoping for the same with the 150-600!

I first read that “as still going through black flies”....and I thought “ I am with you there!”

Only had it a day and it's already at CPS along with the 5D Mark IV "Calibration" terrible soft images and having tested one prior I knew what this lens was capable of! I'll keep both lenses for now and hope Canon release a 90 D with a 30 meg sensor in the coming weeks, pair that with a Canon 100-400 and it will be an awesome Wildlife Combo ! I like to get as close to a subject as possible, I figured the 100-400 has better IQ, IS and Bokeh than the Sigma. I've been using F7.1 and F8 on the Sigma as I find this yields much sharper images but as you can guess in low light it just doesn't cut it!

only trouble with that is if they tune the camera to that lens it might throw the sigma out of synch :-(

Not sure if that's the way they do it? That would mean all my lenses would be out of Sync?

Heres a recent photo from a Hare.
