Its really too bad that Lightroom 5.7 does not have a lens profile for this (C) lens.

I've been using the Sport profile...

I'm certainly not buying Lr6 just to get a profile

Thanks for pointing that out.
I upgraded to LR CC yesterday and hadn't noticed there was a new lens profile until you mentioned it :-)

Hi,

I'm planning to buy this lens this weekend as it should work wonderfully on my 6D (after seeing al these nice photo's here).
Did anyone use this lens for shooting (amateur) soccer games?, because that is my intention to use it (besides for birding)?

Even my older sigma 120-300mm f2.8 (non OS) with 1.4tc can keep up, so i expect that this lens should be fast enough for this as well.

If I have the lens than I can contribute also in this tread.

Regards from The Netherlands

Antwan

Hello Antwan, I think the AF speed and accuracy of this lens is up to many challenges, so long as your Camera body is also reasonable too.

One concern shooting a soccer game - is 150mm too long? You may have to position yourself back from the sidelines depending on how close the action runs in front of you.

The suggestion I would give anyone who is thinking of this lens - is that you also get the Sigma Dock so you can change the OS to "Dynamic". The difference between how it ships and changing the OS to Dynamic is Tremendous. Hopefully you can just find someone with a Dock and borrow it...

Hope this helps ~

Hi Immaculens,

Thanks for your tip about the sigma dock, I will purchase one as well.

My combo now is at shortest 168mm (120mm +1.4tc) and yes it can be a challange.

Too bad my old 1.4tc will not work with the new lens, but I might buy it later on once I master the lens at 600mm

In 2 weeks there will be an other soccer match, so I hope I can take some test shots then.
If they look OK I will post them here.

Please post more shots for inspiration ;-)a

Regards

Antwan

You can download Camera Raw 9 and copy the lens profile.

Thanks Sleepy Rabbit!

New Message:

I figured it out! I now have our lens profile in Lr 5.7.1

I got the profile from the ACR 9 & DNG Converter - and pasted it into the following windows folder:

C:\Users\XXXX\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0

Yaaay!

PM me if you want me to email you the profile with instructions

I've been reading and drooling and drooling and reading. Today I broke down and stopped by the store and picked up a copy of the lens. I haven't attached it to a dock and made any changes but very pleased.

Will,

Now that you've been playing with the lens and dock a bit, do you recommend getting the dock and making changes?

Robert

changes with the dock are not "needed"... the OS that the lens has does work. I suggest popping it on your camera in a store - zoom to 600mm pointed at something small - and see if it works for you.

The OS was not a deal breaker for me as to returning it or not.

That said - I chose to buy the dock and I appreciate the added OS control, and the ability to update firmware if a new one becomes available.

Try to find someone with the Dock to borrow it - or better yet, tell the store that you will buy the lens if you either change the OS to Dynamic for me - or give me a good deal on the Dock.

It ticked me off that Dynamic was not shipped with it.

Hope this helps ~

Thank-you, truth is I have seen so many clean looking moon shots on this forum and while I can have them look good in lightroom on my monitor, they always take a dive in quality on this forum and fb...
